How to Calculate Percentage of Marks (CBSE, NEET, JEE)

Percentage of Marks = (Marks Obtained ÷ Total Marks) × 100. Example: You scored 450 out of 500. Percentage = (450 ÷ 500) × 100 = 90%. For CBSE Class 12 with 5 subjects: Add all 5 subject marks, divide by total marks (usually 500), multiply by 100.

How to Calculate Discount Percentage

Discount Percentage = ((Original Price – Sale Price) ÷ Original Price) × 100. Example: A shirt costs ₹2,000 and is on sale for ₹1,400. Discount = ((₹2,000 – ₹1,400) ÷ ₹2,000) × 100 = 30%. Sale Price from Discount: Sale Price = Original Price × (1 – Discount% ÷ 100). Example: 25% off ₹1,000 = ₹1,000 × 0.75 = ₹750.

How to Calculate Salary Hike Percentage

Hike Percentage = ((New Salary – Old Salary) ÷ Old Salary) × 100. Example: Your salary goes from ₹45,000 to ₹54,000. Hike = ((₹54,000 – ₹45,000) ÷ ₹45,000) × 100 = 20% hike. New Salary from Hike%: New Salary = Old Salary × (1 + Hike% ÷ 100). Example: 15% hike on ₹60,000 = ₹60,000 × 1.15 = ₹69,000.

Percentage Increase vs Percentage Decrease

Percentage Change = ((New Value – Old Value) ÷ Old Value) × 100. A positive result = increase. A negative result = decrease. Example: Petrol price goes from ₹95 to ₹102. Change = ((₹102 – ₹95) ÷ ₹95) × 100 = 7.37% increase.
